Georgia Department of Education logoConyers, Ga. – State School Superintendent Richard Woods today released the Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), which measures schools and school districts on a 100 point scale. These scores are based on data from the 2016-17 school year. The Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) overall score is 68.9. The average for elementary school is 73.0, middle school is 63.5, and high school is 69.9. The state elementary school average is 72.9, middle school is 73.0, and high school is 77.0 with an overall score of 75.0.

“We are currently diving into our results,” says Interim Superintendent Shirley Chesser. “We are analyzing our scores to identify challenge areas and provide customized support where needed to regain our upward trend of student growth and achievement at all levels. We will also celebrate all of our successes and will share best practices across the district. I appreciate the hard work of our teachers, administrators and support staff who continue our focus of preparing all students for college, careers and a successful future.”

The Georgia Department of Education explains that CCRPI is Georgia’s statewide accountability system, implemented in 2012. These are the first results that do not include test scores for science and social studies, which historically are very strong in RCPS elementary and middle school levels. Removing these scores as an indicator for CCRPI may have negatively affected some schools more than anticipated.

In his released statement, State Superintendent Richard Woods explains this accountability system will be changing again. He says, “I still believe the CCRPI does not fully capture the great work happening in our public schools. I'm confident that our proposed refinements to the measurement – as submitted in Georgia's ESSA state plan – will paint a more accurate picture of overall school quality."
