Letter from Director of Learning Support

August 4, 2020

Dear Families and Parents of Students with Disabilities,

As you may be aware, Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) has made the decision that students will begin the 2020-2021 school year in a fully remote learning environment in order to prioritize the health and safety of students and staff based on data and information from the Department of Public Health.  During this time in which all students are learning remotely, RCPS retains a strong commitment to providing the services, accommodations, modifications and supports that Special Education students need for learning.  Although services may look different in a remote learning model, every effort will be made to provide ongoing individual support to our students with disabilities.

In an effort to address individual student needs during remote learning, a Distance Learning Contingency Plan (DLCP) will be developed.  The DLCP will be based upon the foundational content of the current IEP and input from parents, students and relevant RCPS staff members.  Parents are encouraged to be a part of this collaborative effort to consider your student’s unique needs and how to address their IEP through remote learning.  RCPS will work to ensure that access to the curriculum is comparable for all students based on their individual needs.

Case Managers will be reaching out to Parents to discuss the specifics of the DLCP during the weeks ahead.  Once your student resumes face to face instruction, the DLCP will no longer apply, and services will be provided pursuant to your student’s current IEP.  We will continue to collaborate and communicate with you regarding services for students with disabilities that maintain the success of student learning.

Please feel free to contact the Office of Learning Support with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the upcoming school year.

Respectfully,

Judd Hinton
Director of Learning Support
Rockdale County Public Schools

Respetuosamente,

Judd Hinton
Director de Apoyo al Aprendizaje
